1 Year Since I Was Made Redundant (what I have learnt) #Blogmas2025

On Friday, 6th December 2024, I packed up my desk, handed in my fob, and walked out of work for the last time. I left a business I had watched grow from its earliest days—one I had helped shape over almost five years—only to be made redundant.

I began as a Network Administrator, later progressed to Admin & Wayleave Manager, where I had the privilege of supporting and developing new team members who have since become stars in their own right. Eventually, I was asked to step into the role of Office Manager after the previous manager moved on.

I was so upset when I left there, I loved the job and didn't have a clue what to do, the industry I worked in was crumbling and jobs were sparse. I went to interview after interview, told multiple times I was over qualified for the role or would get bored at the job.

Finally got my self a basic level role at a company, I started there end of February and I am still there but I have launched my jewellery business and my beauty business with the aim to build these businesses to then eventually in a year or two go full time on them.

What I have learnt is that there are not many companies out there that will take the risk on you, I am not the only person who feels like that, I am still in contact with the people I make friendships with at the company and they also struggled to get work, a lot of them took jobs like myself that they are worth more, they have better skills that are not used but just took the job to pay the bills.

Turning 30 was a bit of a sad time for me because I reflected at where I am and where I was about a year or two ago and I do feel like I have taken many steps back but looking at it I will get back on track, I will make my parents proud again, I will make myself proud again.
