May 2025 Book Club (+plus news)

I have managed to read 2 books this month and want to let you know what I think.

Wild Love

Author: Elsie Silver

Number of pages: 466

Blurb:

She's been driving him wild for years.

The kind of wild that comes with wanting your best friend's little sister and knowing you can't have her.

Forbes may have labeled Ford Grant the World's Hottest Billionaire, but all he cares about is escaping the press and opening a recording studio in the goregous small town Rose Hill. Something that comes to a screeching halt when he ends up face-to-face with a young girl who claims he's her biological father.

After years of living in the city, Rosie comes back into town like a storm. Beautiful, messy and chaotic. One wide-eyed, desperate plea for a job is all it takes for Ford to hire her. He vows to keep her at arm's length. But with her, verbal sparring is a type of foreplay - friction that soon turns to blistering heat.

Ford knows damn well he shouldn't cross this lin. But shouldn't and can't are two very different things.

My Opinion:

I felt a deep connection to part of the book—it felt like a reflection of my own life. On page 380, Rosie runs into an old colleague who mentions that her former company is going under. I went through something very similar. Like Rosie, I was sexually harassed by someone in a position of power—a director—and when I tried to report it, HR mishandled the situation. In the end, nothing was resolved. Now, that company is also collapsing. Reading Rosie’s story made me feel seen in a painful but validating way.

This book makes me dream of finding my own Ford—someone who would protect me, though probably not someone I’d want as a sperm donor to others. It’s incredibly romantic, full of drama and unexpected twists. I couldn’t put it down!

If you don't like scenes of sexual reference then you probably won't like this book.

Wild Eyes

Author: Elsie Silver

Number of pages: 464

Blurb:

A rugged mountain town seemed like the perfect escape from a life in shambles. Until she ran into the world's hottest single dad.

As a chart-topping country singer with a recent streak of bad press, it’s hard for Skylar Stone to find any peace. But she finds it in Rose Hill. With a little boy and a little girl who steal her heart just as thoroughly as their dad.

Weston Belmont.

The man is a shameless flirt. He oozes confidence and masculinity in a way that’s downright distracting. And in bed? He’s addictive. Everything with him is wild and impulsive, and Skylar is desperate to regain some control.

But no one has supported me like West does. And no one has ever made me feel as loved as he does either. So, while Skylar's brain says settling down with a small-town horse trainer is impossible...her heart says she's right where she belongs.

She can see in his eyes that he wants he to stay. And she wants that too.

But Skylar knows better than anyone that you don't always get what you want.

My Opinion:

This was another book I simply couldn’t put down. I took it with me everywhere—into the bath, while cooking, during lunch breaks, even on car trips. I absolutely loved it. I felt so deeply for Skylar; the way her parents used her emotionally and financially was heartbreaking and frankly disgusting. I’m lucky to have supportive parents who always cheer me on, so it made me really sad to see her go through that. But I was so happy she eventually found her own cheerleaders—not just Weston, but the kids too. And I reading and seeing Weston discover something that ignites his passion and helps him realise he's worthy of love. This book also has sexual and raunchy moments so if you don't like that sort of thing then this book isn't for you.

+plus news

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know I usually take a short break now and then. This June, I’ll be taking some time off. I’ve got a lot going on and, while I don’t normally take a break during this month—since I usually do "Dupe June"—this year I need the time to focus on other things.

That said, there’s a slight difference this time: I’ll still be posting the weekly Lush blog post on Sundays, so you’ll continue to get at least one post each week.

When I return in July, I’ll share more about what’s been happening. Thanks for your understanding!
